About Wild Mountains

Wild Mountains Environmental Education Centre is an independent, not-for-profit organisation established 25 years ago with a vision of a world where people lead fulfilling lives while sharing the earth’s resources with all the life forms on this planet and without degrading our life support systems.

Wild Mountains was established with the belief that young people have the greatest ability to effect behavioural change and adopt a more sustainable and ecological lifestyle as adults, reducing their impact on our fragile planet.

Wild Mountains is situated on a 230-acre property in the Qld Border Ranges, West of the Gold Coast. The property hosts a vast range of flora and fauna including some half dozen threatened species, from sub-tropical rainforest to eucalypt forest.

The main purpose of Wild Mountains is to provide environmental education programs for young people (10 – 16 years of age) to understand the interconnectedness of our planet's resources and our actions. We run residential camps for Southeast Qld and Northern NSW schools throughout the year, as well as offering a range of other programs for university and international students, as well as workshops for local groups. Volunteers also contribute significantly to Wild Mountains through monthly volunteer weekends.

As a centre, Wild Mountains has a relaxed, community focused atmosphere and culture. Our currency is friendship and support for one another, and we offer an environment that cultivates serenity and reflection. Wild Mountains is often referred to as a 'truly magical place'.
